The U.S. Open is one of professional tennis’ most prestigious events. Each year, millions of individuals tune in to watch some of the biggest names in tennis compete for the top prize. Professional players of all ranks look to advance, while the more established players look to solidify their place atop the tennis world. This year, the United States Open will be played without a major star on the woman’s side and last years defending champ on the men’s side. Serena Williams has withdrawn from the tournament as has Juan Martin.

Bet on the US Open at Bodog Sportsbook

Williams will not play in this injury due to a hurt foot. Juan Martin has an injured wrist which has kept him out of play since January of 2010, when he played in the Australian Open. Juan Martin had surgery in May and his game hasn’t been on since then. Though Juan has not been able to pick up a racket and participate in a tournament, he has very recently started practicing. Perhaps he will be ready to play in the upcoming months. This year at the Open, the last major of the year, expect Juan Martin to be a no show.

Venus Williams, Serena’s older sister and fellow tennis ace, does plan to participate in the United States Open. She becomes the favorite now that her sister has withdrawn. However, it is important to note that the elder Venus is also having health issues. She is currently trying to manage a knee injury, which forced her out of two tournaments, one in Montreal and the other in Cincinnati. Also, out of the United States Open on the women’s side is Justin Henin. The one-time #1 player will be out for the rest of the year. She is trying to rest up and recuperate from a blown elbow tendon, she suffered while playing in Wimbledon, I wish I had bet on Wimbledon on that match!.

With these major changes to the field at the 2010 US Open comes changes to the online tennis betting odds.  Be sure to do your research and find some of our top tennis betting sites to place your bets on the 2010 US Open.

The Championships at Wimbledon Are On: June 21 – July 4

June 21st, 2010 Sportsbook Promo Code Staff Posted in Tennis 1 Comment »

Wimbledon is on! The world’s most prestigious tennis championship is back around, having just started Monday, June 21 and running through July 4. And already the action has been nothing less than fierce.

Roger Federer, 6-time champ, almost suffered a brutal defeat in his first match, Alejandro Falla, but after being down two sets Federer bounced back with a vengeance. In every one of the past seven Wimbledon Tournaments, Federer has made it to the finals. That’s on the ATP (men’s) side.

On the WTA (women’s) side, Kim Clijsters, who until now hadn’t played at Wimbledon since ’06, handily beat Maria Elena Camerin with repeated service returns.

The famed Williams sisters have yet to take to the courts, but seeded 1 and 2, Serena and Venus (respectively) are confident going in. Together they have won 8 of the last 10 Wimbledon championships. The women’s 2010 Wimbledon final is on July 3.

Those online tennis betting enthusiasts not willing to lay all their money down on Federer might logically be looking at Rafael Nadal as their choice, seeded 2 at Wimbledon but surpassing Federer in the world rankings. The men’s 2010 Wimbledon final is on July 4.

Contested at the 2010 Wimbledon will be Gentlemen’s Singles and Doubles, Ladies’ Singles and Doubles, and Mixed Doubles, as well as several Boys, Girls, and Invitational events, as well as a Gentlemen’s Wheelchair Doubles.

On a side note, the Queen of England is expected to attend Wimbledon on Thursday, her royal highness’s first visit to the event since ’77.

The Wimbledon Championships are considered one of the four tennis majors comprising the Grand Slams, the others being The Australian Open, The French Open, and The US Open.

The current Aegon champ of the men’s singles is Scotland’s Andy Murray, who won the men’s single title last year after beating American James Blake. Last year’s win was the first time since 1938 that a British man has won the title. The Queen’s Cup is held every year a week after the French Open, and for 2010 will be from June 7th through the 13th. The courts at the Queen’s club are grass, which is the least common of playing surfaces for pro tennis players. This year’s line up for the men’s single include Rafael Nadal, Novak Djokovic, Andy Murray, and Andy Roddick, to name just a few. The men’s singles in the Aegon Championship is one that you are not going to want to miss. Bet on Tennis with our top BetUS promo code.

Wesley Moodie from South Africa and Mikhal Yozhny from Russia won the men’s doubles last year. This pair will have a lot of work to do if they intend on holding on to the title of Aegon doubles champs. The runners up for the last two years in a row are Marcelo Melo and Andre’ Sa’, both of  Brazil. These two tennis players from Brazil have always finished second, though, and the 2010 Aegon Championship is what they are after.

The APT/WTA Mutua Madrileña Madrid Tennis Open

May 14th, 2010 Sportsbook Promo Code Staff Posted in Tennis No Comments »

The 2010 Mutua Madrileña Madrid Open, part of the ATP World Tour Masters 1000 for men and part of the Sony Ericsson Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) tour for women, takes place May 13-16 in Madrid, Spain.

For the first time ever, the Mutua Madrileña Madrid Open will be played, not at its usual (now former) site for the last two decades but in the sparkling new outdoor Magic Box Tennis stadium built to maintain Madrid’s reputation of being the global tennis capital.

Reigning champ from last year’s ATP World Tour Madrileña Madrid Open, Roger Federer, will be there to defend his title against comers like Andy Roddic, Rafael Nadal, and Andy Murray. And they’ll all be competing for a total prize purse of€ 2,835,000 as well.

On the women’s side of the court (so to speak) Dinara Safina will be defending her title from last year’s WTA Mutua Madrileña Madrid Open, though the Williams sisters, Venus and Serena, certainly aren’t going to make it easy for her to do so. Other comers include Justine Henim, Jelene Jankovic, and Ana Ivanoic. The prize purse they’re all competing for is €4,500,000.

The reason the prize purse for the women is nearly twice that of the men’s Mutua Madrileña Madrid Open is that for the women this qualifies (for the second year running) as a Premier Mandatory event whereas, even though it’s been running for nine years for the ATP of men’s tennis it’s not a Premier Mandatory event but only a Masters 1000 event.

Azarenka, Murray Defend Titles In Upcoming Sony Ericsson Open Of Tennis

March 22nd, 2010 Sportsbook Promo Code Staff Posted in Tennis No Comments »

During the two week period between March 22 and April 4, 2010, tennis stars Andy Murray and Victoria Azarenka will be defending their 2009 titles in the 2010 Sony Ericsson Open.

On these dates the 96 top men and women tennis players in the world will convene at the Crandon Park Tennis Center in Miami, FL for the 26th Sony Ericsson Open and try their best to unseat Azarenka and Murray from their respective thrones, the first time either player has held this title.

Among the top contenders for Victoria Azarenka’s crown will be the two sisters, rivals, and tennis wonders Serena Williams and Venus Williams. And with Serena currently the number 1 women’s tennis player in the world and the reigning Australian Open Champion on the women’s side, Victoria Azarenka and Venus and all the rest have an uphill battle with Serena to contend with.

And similarly, although Andy Murray may have the men’s title, it’s Roger Federer, currently the number 1 men’s tennis player in the world and Australian Open Champ on the women’s side, who most oddsters consider the favorite.

Among the other eligible players from the Sony Ericsson WTA Tour and the ATP Tour that will be appearing on the courts are the other men’s favorites—Rafael Nadal, last year’s runner-up Novak Djokovic, Juan Martin Del Potro, the 2008 Sony Ericsson Open champ Nikolay Davydenko, Roddick and Robin Soderling—and the other women’s favorites—Dinara Safina, Caroline Wozniacki, Svetlana Kuznetsova, Elena Dementieva, Jelena Jankovic, and Agnieszka Radwanska.
