Elite 8 Betting: Kansas/VCU, North Carolna/Kentucky

March 26th, 2011 Knup Posted in Basketball No Comments »

Sunday will be a fantastic day of college basketball. On Saturday, two winners will head to the Final Four, with the other two being decided on Sunday. Three big time programs will play, while the underdog Virginia Commonwealth tries to slay the powerhouses. Let’s take a look at the two games that are set to take place on Sunday.

Kansas Jayhawks -11 over Virginia Commonwealth Rams

The Morris brothers are too big and too strong for the VCU Rams. Their size and strength is far more than VCU can throw out their in the post. The Rams have had a great run, winning four NCAA tournament games, including the play-in game over USC. The Kansas Jayhawks can shoot the basketball about as well as any team in the history of the NCAA tournament. Kansas is making nearly 52% of their shots taken. VCU is not only going to have to do a solid job of defending the post, but they are also going to have to contain Brady Morninstar and Tyrel Reed from behind the arch. Look for Kansas to do like they did against Richmond; jump out to a big lead, then cruise and win this game. Kansas Jayhawks -11.5 over Virginia Commonwealth Rams is our pick!

North Carolina Tar Heels +1.5 over Kentucky Wildcats

Interesting line here, with two of the most traditional favorites in the history of the NCAA tournament. Roy Williams against John Calipari. Both of these coaches have been in and won big games in the past. This game is going to be full of athletes that will be playing at the next level. North Carolina is coming off the blow-out win over Marquette, while the Wildcats upset the favorite Ohio State. Look for this game to get up and down, which is more at the pace of North Carolina. Kentucky is a bit too young to play 40 minutes of up and down basketball. When it comes down to it, North Carolina wins this game and covers the +1.5 underdog spread. North Carolina +1.5 over Kentucky!

See you all next week for some March Madness Final Four picks!

March Madness – Tournament Overview

March 17th, 2011 Knup Posted in Basketball No Comments »

It’s the best time of the year. Basketball fans are going crazy over the approaching NCAA tournament. The tournament technically started on Tuesday with two play-in games where Clemson blew out UAB and UNC Asheville won, for the right to play Pittsburgh. 16 games will be played Thursday, 16 more on Friday, with 8 on Saturday and 8 on Sunday. Without further ado, let’s talk about the March Madness betting promotions from each region:

East Region: Out of the East, the Ohio State Buckeyes are the top seed. Many feel this is the toughest region in the tournament, with North Carolina, Syracuse, Kentucky, West Virginia and Xavier to follow. The Buckeyes will face either George Mason or Villanova in the second round. Many are looking back to the beginning of the season when Villanova was one of the highest regarded teams in the country. This could be a speed  bump for the Buckeyes. North Carolina takes on Long Island at the bottom of the bracket, and will await either Washington or Georgia if they can win. Syracuse will take on Indiana State. The Orange have been playing better basketball, but as we have seen in the past, Missouri Valley teams always seem to have peskiness to them. The Orange need to make sure they hit shots to avoid the upset. The winner of that game will get the chance to take on either Xavier or Marquette. With a Syracuse and Marquette win, we will have an all-Big East game. The final section of four features the fourth seeded Kentucky Wildcats against Princeton, and #5 West Virginia, playing the Clemson Tigers. Kentucky is playing great basketball right now, winning the SEC conference tournament. West Virginia is looking to get back to the Final Four.

The winner of the East, plays the winner of the West in the Final Four. The west is where Coach K and his bunch await. The Blue Devils will take on Hampton in the second round. If the Blue Devils win, they will face either Michigan or the Tennesse Volunteers. Many feel if Tennessee gets by Michigan, their crazy nature could upset Duke in the second round. The second seed in the West is the San Diego State Aztecs. The Aztecs lost twice this season; both times to Brigham Young. They will take on Northern Colorado in the first round. The winner of that game will get the winner of Penn State against Temple. Both of these teams like to slow the game down, so look out for 40 points to win this game! The third seed in the West is the UConn Huskies. After winning five games in five days, let’s see what they have left in the NCAA tournament. Kimba Walker is the best player on the court every night, when he is playing full speed. UConn will face Bucknell. The 6/11 game features the Cincinnati Bearcats and Missouri Tigers. Again, if Connecticut and Cincinnati win – another Big East matchup? The 4th seeded Texas Longhorns will look to start their run and take on Oakland. Oakland has played a tough schedule, and will be well prepared. Arizona and Memphis play in the 5/12 game.

In the Southwest region, the Kansas Jayhawks will take on Boston University. The winner will get the winner of the UNLV Running Rebels against the Fighting Illini of Illinois. The second seed in the Southwest region is the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. The Big East runner up during the regular season will take on the Zips of Akron. The winner of that game will play either Texas A+M or Florida State. Purdue, after another news story sending a player off the team, will look to  defend their #3 seed as they take on St. Peter’s. In the 6/11 game – John Thompson III and his Georgetown Hoyas will take on the winner of the play-in game that is taking place Wednesday night between USC and VCU. Louisville and Morehead State will play for regional supremacy in the 4/13 game, while Vanderbilt and Richmond battle it out in the 5/12 game.

The final region is the Southeast, and the one many experts feel is the weakest of all the regions. The Pittsburgh Panthers, despite not winning a game in their conference tournament are the #1 seed. They will take on North Carolina Asheville, who beat Alabama State in the play-in game. In what should be a very entertaining 8/9 game the Butler Bulldogs will meet the Old Dominion Monarchs. Going right down the bracket, the 5/12 game features the Kansas State Wildcats and the Utah State Aggies. Kansas State started to get hot late in the season, and lost to only Colorado the final month. Utah State comes into the game with a 30-3 record. The 4/13 game sees Wisconsin and Belmont go at it. The Badgers are going to need to find more offense before the tournament starts, or Belmont will be an upset winner. The bottom half of the bracket features the second seeded Florida Gators. Florida, despite losing in the SEC title game, still garnered a 2 seed. The Gators will take on California-Santa Barbara. The winner will get either the UCLA Bruins or the Michigan State Spartans. This game has alot of NCAA history between the two teams. The last two games see St. John’s square off with Gonzaga, and Brigham Young battle with Wofford.

This tournament is destined to be fantastic. Be sure to check out all the latest in NCAA basketball, and check back here for all the action the remaining three weekends!

NCAA Betting: ACC Championship Pick

March 13th, 2011 Knup Posted in Basketball No Comments »

When: 1:00 AM  EST, Sunday, March 13, 2011

Where: Greensboro Coliseum, Greensboro, North Carolina

The championship of the Atlantic Coast Conference is old hat for the Duke Blue Devils. This is their 30th appearance in the finals. They face the North Carolina Tar Heels who will also be making their 30 th appearance in the finals. They have not met each other in this format in the last 10 years. Duke has won 9 of the last 12 titles and has a streak of 2 in a row. The Tar Heels have won this tournament 17 times and Duke has claimed 18 tourney titles.

Duke is led by senior guard Nolan Smith. He has scored 64 points against North Carolina in their two previous meetings this season. He was considered injured going into the Virginia Tech and he came away with six assists and 27 points along with shooting 50% from the field in the 77-63 victory. Mason Plumlee leads the team in rebounds with over 7 boards per game and Seth Curry manages 1.4 steals per game. The team averages 81 points per game while the opponents only get 64.5 per gamer. Duke grabs 38 boards off the glass per game average. The Blue Devils are 29-4 for the season.

North Carolina comes in with a 26-6 record after registering a win in overtime over Clemson 92-87. Freshman Harrison Barnes led the team with 40 points for a career high. Kendall Marshall leads in assists for the team with 5.8 per game and John Henson grabs 9.8 rebounds per game and also blocks over 3 shots per game. As a team they average 77 points per game and give up 67 to their opponents. They hold a 10 rebound per game differential over their opposition as the Tar Heels board 42.5 per game. The Tar Heels have won nine straight games and are winners of 14 of the last 15 games they have played.

Each team has won a game in this series and both times it was the home team that came out on top. Duke won at home 70-9-73 in February and North Carolina won their game at Chapel Hill 81-67. If duke wins this game they are probably looking at a #1 seed but if they lose the Blue Devils are likely to drop to a #2 in the tournament. If North Carolina is victorious thy will probably garner the top spot on Selection Sunday.

The odds are for Duke to win -3.5 and this is an enticing bet but beware that North Carolina is starting slow but finishing strong. This game will end up close and with our free pick look for the Blue Devils to cover the -3.5 to win.

Check out our March Madness promotion page to get up-to-date access to the most current promotions available throughout March Madness.
Our Pick: Duke -3.5

College Basketball: Louisville Cardinals vs. Connecticut Huskies

March 12th, 2011 Knup Posted in Basketball No Comments »

The Big East Championship is on the line Saturday as the Louisville Cardinals will take on the Connecticut Huskies. The Huskies have won four straight conference tournament games to get to this point. They came into the tournament as the #9 seed in the Big East. Louisville beat Notre Dame on Friday night to move into the finals. The Cardinals were the #3 seed in the Big East tournament.

Louisville used overtime to down the Fighting Irish. The Cardinals trailed by as many as 16 at one point; including down 14 at the half. The Cardinals have won six of their last seven games overall, with the only loss during that time to West Virginia. Louisville, who is coached by legendary icon Rick Pitino will be making their 37th appearance in the NCAA, and in hopes of their ninth trip to the Final Four.

The Cardinals have seen balanced scoring through most of the season. When it comes down to it, the Cardinals leading scorer has been guard Preston Knowles. Knowles is scoring 14.7 points per game for a team that is averaging over 75 per game. The Cardinals have been extremely unselfish this season, ranking third in the nation in assists per game. Louisville dishes out nearly 18 assists per game.

Jim Calhoun and his Huskies are centered around the Mr. everything - Kimba Walker. Walker scored 32 in the win over Syracuse on Friday night in overtime. On the season, Walker scored nearly 24 points per game. With just 6 points in this game, Walker will break the all time college basketball record for most points scored in a conference tournament.

The Huskies will be in the NCAA tournament for the 30th time in school history. Connecticut is seeking their 4th trip to the Final Four. Overall, they hold a 46-28 record in NCAA tournament games. Connecticut has won two national championships in Men’s Basketball, with their most recent coming back in 2004.

The last time these two teams played; Louisville came away with a 71-58 win at home on February 18th. The two teams also played on January 29th in Storres, where Louisville came away with a win in double overtime. This should be another epic Big East title game. Check out our basketball betting page to get in on the action for this one.  Look for the game to stay tight, but Louisville will come away with the win, due to having a little fresher legs.

The Louisville Cardinals will be the Big East tournament champions. This win will propel the Cardinals to as high as a #2 seed in the NCAA tournament. With the Huskies run, they will move into a top 4 seed as well.

Atlantic Coast Conference Hoops: North Carolina Tar Heels vs. Duke Blue Devils

March 5th, 2011 Knup Posted in Basketball No Comments »

In one of the biggest rivalry’s in the history of college basketball, the North Carolina Tar Heels will host the Duke Blue Devils in a huge Atlantic Coast Conference tilt. In fact, the conference championship is on the line at the Dean Smith Center in Chapel Hill. This is the second time these two teams have played; the first time Duke came away with a narrow home win. These two teams hope to meet up again in the Atlantic Coast Conference tournament championship game next week. If you enjoy betting on basketball, be sure you check out the current March madness promotions that the top sportsbooks offer!

Roy Williams and the North Carolina Tar Heels have won six straight games since their last meeting with the Blue Devils. Tyler Zeller has been a man child for the Tar Heels scoring 14.6 points per game, and also ripping down 7 rebounds per game. The Tar Heels are the leading rebounding team in the country, as they are ripping down nearly 43 per game. North Carolina is also in the top 25 in scoring, with 77.2 points per game. North Carolina is seeking their 19th trip to the Final Four this season, and will be making their 42nd tournament appearance.

The Duke Blue Devils stumbled at Virginia Tech to open the door for this game to decide the conference champion. Duke bounced back with a home win over the Clemson Tigers earlier in the week. The other two losses for the Blue Devils have come to Florida State and St. John’s; both on the road. The Blue Devils are led by Nolan Smith and Kyle Singler. The combination are averaging over 38 points per game, while Singler is the second leading rebounder on the team, and Smith is the top assist man. Duke ranks ninth in the nation in total offense, as they are scoring just shy of 82 points per game. Duke will be making their 35 NCAA tournament this March. They are looking for back-to-back trips to the Final Four, and their 16th overall.

The line for this game is a pick’em. The first game Duke was the big time favorite, and North Carolina led through most of the game. The Blue Devils went on a huge run and won the game. This time the venue has changed, and North Carolina is playing good basketball. We like the home team to come away with the win and claim the conference title. Our pick – North Carolina (0) to beat Duke on Saturday night.

NBA Betting: All Star Game

February 19th, 2011 Knup Posted in Basketball No Comments »

The National Basketball Association will play their All Star Game on Sunday night at the Staples Center in Los Angeles. The All Star Game has been around for years and provides entertainment for the fans, and allows players from different teams the opportunity to play with each other. It also allows for some of the best match-ups, you’ll ever see. The NBA All Star Game is usually full of points, with defense only coming late in the game.  This year’s version takes place at the Staples Center, which is the home of both the Los Angeles Clippers and the Los Angeles Lakers. The game will start at 8:00pm EST, and can be seen on TNT. Here is some information regarding both teams:

The Eastern Conference are the visitors in this game. They seem to have the younger talent, as some of the teams are starting to emerge in the standings. The Eastern Conference starters see a pair of Miami Heat stars on the team. LeBron James, who led Cleveland to a franchise high in wins last season will be the starting Forward, along with Dwyane Wade as a starting guard. The Chicago Bulls got their point guard in his second year- Derrick Rose, in as a starter. Rose has emerged as a possible MVP candidate in the recent weeks, especially after his 42 points against San Antonio on Thursday night. The rest of the Eastern Conference line-up includes “Superman” Dwight Howard and Amare Stoudemire. Stoudemire is making his first start for the Eastern team, after spending years in Phoenix and playing with the Western Conference. You can check out these basketball betting sites and bet on the game if you want.

The Eastern Conference reserves include four players from the Boston Celtics. Point guard Rajon Rondo leads the Eastern Conference in assists. Ray Allen is the all time leading three point shooter, Paul Pierce leads Boston in scoring, and Kevin Garnett, another transfer from the Western Conference. The Atlanta Hawks are sporting two players, as sharpshooter Joe Johnson and big man Al Horford are on the squad. Chris Bosh of Miami is the final player on the Eastern Conference squad. All together, only 6 NBA teams had a player on the Eastern Conference squad.

The Western Conference is full of veterans. Making their 13th All Star Appearence are Kobe Bryant and Tim Duncan. Duncan is quietly aiding his Spurs to their best record all the All Star break in franchise history. Bryant’s Lakers have struggled as of late, but are still the back-to-back champions. Carmelo Anthony may be making his last Western Conference start. Rumors continue to fly that Anthony will be moved to New Jersey or New York soon. Chris Paul is the starting point guard for the Western Conference, while Kevin Durant – the NBA’s leading scorer is the final starter on the team. Duncan is replacing Yao Ming on the starting roster.

Blake Griffin, Kevin Love and Russell Westbrook are all first timers to the NBA All Star Game. Griffin will compete in the Slam Dunk Contest over the weekend as well. Love has been a stud rebounder for Minnesota, and Westbrook runs the offense for Kevin Durant and the Thunder. The rest of the reserves in the Western Conference include: Pau Gasol from the Los Angeles Lakers, Manu Ginobili, who leads the Spurs in scoring, Dirk Nowitzki of Dallas and Deron Williams of the Utah Jazz.

Our pick: The Eastern Conference is younger, and just overall better now. Take the Eastern Conference in a virtual pick’em over the Western Conference!

Expert Pick: Villanova Wildcats vs. Pittsburgh Panthers

February 12th, 2011 Knup Posted in Basketball No Comments »

In a huge Big East tilt, Jay Wright and his Villanova Wildcats will take on Jamie Dixon and the Pittsburgh Panthers. Both teams come into the game ranked within the Top 25 of the Associated Press poll. The Wildcats are currently #10, while the Panthers are #4. Villanova comes in with a 19-5 overall record, and 7-4 in the Big East. The Wildcats are tied with Louisville for fourth place in the toughest conference in the country. Pittsburgh is 22-2, and 10-1 in Big East play. The Panthers hold a 1.5 game lead on the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. These two teams have yet to play this season, but will play again in Pittsburgh on the final day of the regular season. These two teams have the chance to meet in the Big East tournament later in March as well.

The road team, Pittsburgh Panthers have won three straight games since their last loss on January 24th. That loss came to Notre Dame. Their other loss this season came to the Tennessee Volunteers. Pittsburgh is led by Brandon Wannamaker and Ashton Gibbs, who are combining for over 30 points per game. The Panthers rank 5th in the country in rebounding, with nearly 42 per game. They have also been very unselfish, as they are the 2nd ranked team in assists, averaging 18.4 per game. Pittsburgh, in March will be making their 23rd NCAA tournament appearence. The Panthers also have 22 tournament wins in school history, with one trip to the Final Four.

Corey Stokes and Corey Fisher lead the Wildcats. The two guards are scoring 30.6 points per game. Villanova took a controversial loss at Rutgers on February 9th to fall to fourth place in the conference. Before that, Villanova had won  two in a row, against Marquette and West Virginia. The Wildcats are scoring 75.5 points per game, which ranks 45th in the nation. Villanova has made 31  tournament appearences, with 4 trips to the Final Four. The Wildcats won the national title in 1985. They hold a 49-31 tournament record.

This game should be another rough and tough Big East game. Anytime these two teams get together, it’s a barn burner. The home team has a little bit of an advantage due to their home crowd. The Wildcats have shot the ball pretty well at home, and struggled a bit on the road. Case in point for that was their loss at Rutgers on Wednesday night. Villanova comes in -3.5 at home. Pittsburgh will give their best effort, as they always do under Dixon. Look for the guard play of Villanova to eventually be too much. Wildcats win by 4.

Our Pick: Villanova Wildcats -3.5. Bet the Wildcats here.

NBA Betting:Dallas Mavericks vs. Denver Nuggets – Prediction and Pick

February 10th, 2011 Knup Posted in Basketball No Comments »

On Thursday, February 10, 2011 the Denver Nuggets take on the Dallas Mavericks at the Pepsi Center in Denver Colorado. Denver enters with a record of 30-22 and are 21-7 at home. The are winners of six of their last ten games and lost their last game. The are from the Northwest Division are in 3rd place. Dallas is 16-7 on the road and are 36-15 overall. The have won nine games in a row. they are in second place in the Southwest Division. Let’s preview each team and than make a prediction and check the odds for the game.

Denver is a prolific scoring team and lead the NBA with a 107.6 points per game and the opponents score 104 per game. From the field they shoot 46% and 78% from the charity stripe, They average 41 rebounds per game and allow their opponents to grab 42 per game. Carmelo Anthony leads them in scoring ar 24.1 points per game and rebound at a 7.8 clip. Chauncey Billups hands out over 5 assists per game and JR Smith gets a steal per game. Nene has a 64% shooting percentage and blocks a shot per game. In ther last game Ty Lawson came off the bench and scored 19 points.

Dallas is led in scoring by Dirk Nowitzki with a 23.1 scoring and a 52.6% field goal accuracy. Jason Kidd passes out 8.4 assists per game and makes 1.7 steals per game. Tyson Chandler ties up the middle of the lane with 9.6 rebounds per game and he makes 1.2 blocks on a average. They average as a team 97 points per game and give away 94 points. They are decent at 46% field goal shooting and very good from the free throw line at 78%. They rebound evenly with their opponents at 41 for each team per game. Peja Stojakovic can shoot from 3-point range and in the last game Jason Terry chipped in with 23 points off the bench.

These teams have some similar attributes to make it a close game. With the game in Denver it benefits them but Dallas has been putting everyone away recently. Neither team rebounds very well but the offense will be moving the ball towards the basket for this one.

We really like the way Dallas is playing right now, but Denver seems too tough at home. The Denver Nuggets are -3 coming into the game. We are going to go with our gut, and pick the Denver Nuggets -3 tonight at home over the Dallas Mavericks. To get in on the action and learn more about basketball betting click here.

Dwayne Wade is nipping at James heels with a scoring average of 25.7 and gathers 6,8 rebounds per game. Forward Chris Bosh leads in rebounding average for the Miami Heat at 8.2 per game and scores 18.5 points per game. One of the key players for this team is Udonis Haslem and he is out for the game.

With this being a high profile game in the National Basketball League the teams will notch it up for pride and the chance to jab their rival. Each team will look to score fast and get the ball out in transition. Not much defense is expected to be played but if the game is close near the end you will find the Heat turning it up on the defensive end. Dwight Howard will make it hard for them to stop and will the 3-headed Miami Heat scoring monsters. Our prediction for this game finds the Orlando Magic is -1.5 at home  as listed by Sportsbook. They will hold serve in this game and win the game by 3 points.

Our pick: Bet Magic -1.5
