2011 NBA Eastern Conference Preview- Chicago Bulls vs. Miami Heat

May 13th, 2011 Knup Posted in Basketball No Comments »

The Chicago Bulls swept the Miami Heat during the season 3 game to none. Things have changed a bit since the last game in early March. But you can’t take away the fact it was a sweep. During the season the Bulls won 62 games and lost 20 and the Heat won 58 games and lost 24.

Get in the Action with our Basketball betting sites.

The Bulls advanced by defeating the Pacers 4 games to 1 and then dispatching the Atlanta Hawks 4-2 while the Heat defeated the 76’ers 4-1 and the Celtics 4-1. Games 1 and 2 will be played at the United Center in Chicago beginning on Sunday May 15th. Every game will be broadcast on TNT for you viewing pleasure.

Both teams are getting all their players back from injuries as the Heat now have Udonis Haslem ready to get some playing time while the Bulls are watching Carlos Boozer and his turf toe condition very carefully. When full strength the Bulls averages 105 points a game and were #1 in the NBA in defensive average at 97.4. The Heat ranked 3rd in scoring with 109.3 while allowing 100.8 points to their opponents per game.

The Bulls have Derrick Rose as their star and the 2011 MVP of the league. When looking at the stats one eye-popping number is that the Bulls possessions end 42.2% of the time with the ball in the hands of Rose. The Heat will throw Mario Chalmers and Dwayne Wade at him from the defensive side of the floor. Carlos Boozer was a monster in game 6 but he must remain healthy in order for the team to have success. Other players that are vital will be the rebounding and defense of Joakim Noah and Taj Gibson to win this series.

The Heat will have the Big Three that everyone has followed all year. Dwayne Wade must be the defensive stopper first in this series and a corer second. He will need to allow LeBron James and Chris Bosh to score while he concentrates on Derrick Rose. Bosh will likely draw Noah to defend and that is no treat. But he just finished a series doing a great job handling Kevin Garnett on defense.

This is going to be an entertaining series with many subplots to watch. The Heat were put together for this very series they are playing. They have the horses to ride all the way to the end. The Bulls are riding the coattails of Rose with some Boozer in the mix. The hard fought series favors the Heat as they are almost all healthy at this time while the Bulls need Carlos Boozer to stay on the floor. Look for the Heat to win this series in 6 games.

Game 3 NBA Betting: Atlanta Hawks at Chicago Bulls – Free Pick and Prediction

May 6th, 2011 Knup Posted in Basketball No Comments »

The Chicago Bulls evened the best-of-seven series by hunkering down on defense. Derrick Rose is still hobbled buy his ankle injury and didn’t have a great Game 2. Now the scene shifts to the Phillips Arena in Atlanta, Georgia.

The Harks managed to shoot 34% in Games 2 after racking up 51% in the first game. Several of the team members were rather horrible in their shooting with Jamal Crawford, Al Horford and Marvin Williams combining for 3 for 13 from beyond the three point arc. Teague scored 21 points for team high and Johnson contributed 16 points. After scoring 22 points on 8-of-16 shooting for Atlanta in Game 1, Crawford slipped to 11 points on 2-of-10 in Game 2. The Hawks were lukewarm during the season when they played at home as they were next to last of the playoff teams in win percentage at home. At home they were 24-17 during the 2010-2011 season.

Rose contributed 25 points in Game 2 which was the same day he received the MVP trophy. He was 10 for 27 from the field and had eight turnovers. If it wasn’t for their stellar defense the bulls would be down 2 games to none right now.  The Bulls were led in rebounding by Joakim Noah and his 14 boards while he scored 19 points. Kyle Korver is shooting just 4-of-16 in the first two games for Chicago. Carlos Boozer is dealing with a turf toe injury and managed just eight points.

Atlanta stole a game in Chicago and now the Bulls hope to return the compliment. Neither team shot well from beyond the arc in Game 2, with the Bulls going 5-of-22 and the Hawks coming in at 3-of-13. Both teams shot better than 35 percent from 3-point range in the regular season. The oddsmakers have install the Hawks as a +2.5 for this game at home. This game is leaning towards the Hawks with these numbers to support them. Hawks are 5-0 ATS in their last 5 games as a home underdog of 0.5-4.5 and they are 6-2 ATS in their last 8 home games along with the Hawks being  6-2 ATS in their last 8 games as an underdog. Bet the Hawks to cover the +2.5 spread in this game.

NBA Playoff Game 2 Betting: Chicago Bulls vs. Atlanta Hawks – Free Pick and Prediction

May 3rd, 2011 Knup Posted in Basketball No Comments »

This moves to Game 2 with the Hawks owning a 1-0 series lead. Many didn’t believe the Hawks belonged in the playoffs but they have proved worthy. The jumped out to an early lead against the Bulls and then they finished strong to victory. This game will take place on Wednesday, May 4, 2011 at the United Center in Chicago, Illinois.

The Bulls looked sluggish and sometimes downright anemic in Game 1. They shot under 30% in the first quarter. All Star and probable MVP Derrick Rose didn’t score until late in the second period. The Bulls did manage to claw back in the third quarter but allowed the Atlanta Hawks to finish stronger. Luol Deng carried the Bulls offensively through the first half on Monday and finished with 21 points on 8-of-12 shooting. Rose did manage to accumulate 24 points and 10 assists for the game. He did not attempt a free throw which was a strong suit during the season by averaging 12 a game. The Hawks led the NBA in defensive shooting percentage during the season but something went awry with the Hawks firing shots in at a 51.3% success rate.

Joe Johnson has stunned the critics as many thought him to be a soft player. He scored 34 points with 5 for 5 from beyond the 3-point arc. Teammate Jamal Crawford chipped in 24 points for the Hawks off the bench. Josh Smith struggled from the floor for Atlanta, shooting 3-of-11 and just 2-of-4 from the line for eight points.

A less explosive Derrick Rose spells trouble for the Bulls. Rose is nursing an ankle injury as just hasn’t been able to shake defenders loose like he did in the regular season. Atlanta is riding high and now has a chance to move this series to a 2-0 lead. Look for Atlanta to cover the -8.5 spread in this game

NBA Playoff Game 6 Betting – San Antonio Spurs vs. Memphis Grizzlies – Free Pick

April 28th, 2011 Knup Posted in Basketball No Comments »

This game is to be played on Friday, April 29, 2011 at the FedEx Center in Memphis, Tennessee.

San Antonio Spurs get another chance to play after a last second shot goes in. They will face the Memphis Grizzlies in Games 6 of the Western Conference quarterfinals. Spurs forward Tim Duncan’s playing time was over 39 minutes in Game 4, a season high for the big man. Can he bounce back after just one day of rest?

Gary Neal is the hero of San Antonio after his 3-pointer at the buzzer in regulation and eventually defeated Memphis 113-110. Manu Ginobilli came up big with 33 points and six rebounds with six assists and four steals to lead the team followed by Tony Parker and his nine assists and 24 points. The spurs were humiliated in Game 4 and came back to avenge the loss in Memphis. The Spurs have lost 8 of their last 9 road games. If you are going to bet on basketball, then now is a good time to do so.

Memphis is demoralized by having the victory snatched away from them. Zach Randoplh led the team in the game with 11 rebounds and 26 points. It was his short jumper that put them ahead just before Neal’s heroics. They now have two chances to put the Spurs away in this best of seven series. Marc Gasol chipped in with 17 rebounds but shot poorly to keep his team from winning. If they accomplish that they will be only the second #8 seed to defeat a #1 seed in the first round. Memphis has won four in a row at home.

The Spurs have the veteran leadership and can actually find a way to keep this series going. Memphis has the youngsters that are not as likely to be worn out from a seven game series. With this game at the FedEx Center in Memphis is a huge boost for the Grizzlies. Some things to consider with the odds Memphis -3 are the Grizzlies are 4-0-1 ATS in their last 5 Conference Quarterfinals games and they are 10-1 ATS in their last 11 home games vs. a team with a winning road record along with that the Grizzlies are 9-2 ATS in their last 11 games as a favorite. Our pick is for the fresh legs to win and cover the spread.

Dallas Mavericks vs. Portland Trailblazers – Game 6 – Free Pick

April 27th, 2011 Knup Posted in Basketball No Comments »

Dallas leads this series 3 games to 2 as it moves to the Rose Garden in Portland, Oregon. This game will be played on Thursday, April 28, 2011. Dallas has had considerable trouble winning on the road in playoff history. They are 2-18 in the last 20 on playoff road games. Both teams will need to control the rebounds in order to have a chance to win. In game 5 Dallas held a 49-35 rebounding advantage.

Portland will have to hold the Mavericks back while they have the homecourt advantage. One thing the Trail Blazers know is they can come from behind as they did in Game 4 when they were back 23 points in the third quarter to win the affair.  LaMarcus Aldridge had nine boards and 12 points but will need held from Gerald Wallace who chipped in nine rebounds and 16 points in the last contest. Brandon Roy has to catch fire as he was cold in Game 4 with only 5 points on the night. Portland was the 3rd best free throw shooting team during the season with just over 80%. They scored just under 2 points a game more than their opponents.

The Mavericks had 14 points and a career best 20 rebounds from Tyson Chandler in Game 5 for Dallas to win going away. Dirk Nowitzki leads the team and he has scored over 20 points in each of the playoff game so far this series. Jason Kidd and Jason Terry added 14 and 20 points respectively. In the last game Dallas was 26 for 35 from the charity stripe. Dallas outscored the Trail Blazers 17-8 in second chance points in the last game. Forward Shawn Marion may be the key to this game as he added 14 points in the last game and shoots over 50% from the field. Dallas is in the Top Ten of three of the five main defensive categories in the NBA. They also score 4 points a game more than their opposition.

Look for this game to be a close affair in Portland. Dallas has too many offensive weapons to be shut down by a weak Portland defense. Dallas enters the game as the underdog at +4.5 for the game. Look for Dallas to cover that and may even win the game.

NBA Playoff Betting: Chicago Bulls vs. Indiana Pacers Game 3

April 21st, 2011 Knup Posted in Basketball No Comments »

The Bulls have Derrick Rose and he has been sensational throughout the entire season. In the playoffs he is averaging 37.5 points per game with six assists and seven rebounds. The Pacers can’t stop him. In Game 2 he finished with 36 points and eight boards. Carlos Boozer chipped in with 16 rebounds and 17 points. Kyle Korver has added some 3-point shots late in each game to seal the victories.

Rose has been sensational so far. After leading a 16-1 charge to end Game 1, the All-Star point guard took over again in Game 2 with Chicago trailing, putting the Bulls up for good with a circus hook shot from the right side of the lane that turned into a three-point play, and then clinching it from the free throw line. He finished with 36 points, eight rebounds and six assists while Carlos Boozer added 17 points and 16 boards. Kyle Korver has been a key to each of the wins as well, hitting a 3-pointer in the final minutes of both. The key stat was that the Bulls controlled the boards with a 57-33 advantage over the Pacers.

Tyler Hansbrough has been hot and cold for the Pacers with 22 points in game 1  but scraped up six points in the next outing on 2 baskets in 12 attempts. One key injury in Game 2 was Darren Collison spraining his ankle and is questionable for this game. Indiana will need more scoring from Brandon Rush and some defensive stops to win.

The Pacers have led both games into the fourth quarter but have not been able to finish. The game is being played at Conseco Fieldhouse in Indianapolis. This will help the Pacers with enthusiasm. The Bulls are clearly a better team but look for the Pacers to cover the spread in this game. The sportsbooks have Pacers +4.5. For the entire playoffs check our preview page for more information.

NBA Playoff Betting: Nuggets vs. Thunder

April 20th, 2011 Knup Posted in Basketball No Comments »

This is Game 2 of a best of seven series and will be played at the Oklahoma City Arena in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma in Wednesday, April 20, 2011 at 8PM EST.

Kevin Durant was a beast and Denver could do nothing to stop him. He had 41 points with 13 for 22 shooting and 12 out of 15 free the free throw line. Russell Westbrook was a mini-beast as he chipped in with 31 points as both players set career high marks. However, the Thunder only managed to narrowly survive with a 107-103 win in Game 1. OKC shot over 47% from beyond the 3-point arc in the first game. One event in that game was a goal tending call was not made that should have been disallowed from Kendrick Perkins near the end of the game. This was a tough pill for the Nuggets and Coach George Karl to swallow.

Denver was a bit rattled after the no call and allowed the game to slip away. Now they will have Arron Affalo out with a strained hamstring for Game 2. The best player of the night was Denver’s center Nene as he added 22 points with 9 for 11 shooting and had eight boards for the game to go with two steal. The Nuggets shot just 25% from the 3-point line in the first game and must do a much better job of that to win.

It appears that the Thunder are a better team and is a good pick to win it all. Check out our NBA Playoff Preview for a better perspective. The odds have OKC -5 to win.  A few trends I like for this are the Thunder are 6-2 ATS in their last 8 after allowing 100 points or more in their previous game and are 6-2-1 ATS in their last 9 Wednesday games. Also the Thunder are 3-1-1 ATS in their last 5 games playing on 2 days rest with a 5-2-1 ATS in their last 8 games following a ATS loss. Bet OKC Thunder -5

2011 NBA Playoffs Preview

April 14th, 2011 Knup Posted in Basketball No Comments »

The NBA Playoffs begin today and we are going to take a look at some of the teams that have good odds to win the NBA Championship.

Be sure to place your bets with Sportsbook.com by using our Sportsbook Promo Code.

Western Conference Contenders:

San Antonio Spurs – This is probably a last gasp for the title. Tim Duncan and Manu Ginobilli are approaching the age where they production typically goes down. The last time the Spurs won it all was in 2007. They will be looking for their fourth winner in nine years.

Los Angeles Lakers – Kobe Bryant takes over this time of the year. The Lakers are 16-1 since the All Star game and they vie for their third in a row. One of the keys to success is if Andrew Bynum is healthy or not. Look for help from Pau Gasol and Lamar Odom for another deep run.

Dallas Mavericks – Dirk Nowitzki and Jason Kidd are both having great seasons and this may be enough to make the hunger turn into an enjoyable ending. Nowitzki is shooting 52% from the field and averages near 23 points a game.

Oklahoma City Thunder – This is a very young and talented team that scare the heebie-jeebies out of the teams they play. Russell Westbrook and Kevin Durant anchor this team. Durant led the league in scoring this season and with help from Kendrick Perkins and Nate Robinson this team may flourish. They do lack playoff experience but plenty of talent.

Eastern Conference Contenders:

Chicago Bulls – This team is for real and they are a legitimate contender to win it all. This team is led by Derrick Rose and his 25 points per game along with just under 8 assists per game. This team is the best defensive team in the playoffs and you know what they say about that. Chicago will be going for it to return to the glory days.

Boston Celtics – The Celtics took a chance to trade away some of its stability and may have gotten burned by it. Since trading Perkins and Robinson to the Thunder they have gone 10-8 and may struggle to get back to their performance in 2010 and back to the championship game. They still have great players in Garnett and Ray Allen but they miss that inside presence.

Miami Heat – This was the team everyone said would run away with it. They have had great success with the additions of LeBron James and Chris Bosh to compliment Dwayne Wade but they are not invincible. The Heat has failed to live up to expectations so far, especially against elite opposition, but with three of the league’s premier players in their ranks will undoubtedly be a major contender in the playoffs. Getting them in a 7-game series will be difficult for the opponents.

Orlando Magic – This is another team that would be tough to handle in a series. This team ended fourth in their conference and the main offensive abilities fall on the backs of Dwight Howard and Jameer Neslon.

ODDS: Keep checking the odds as they change many times before the start of game.

In the Western Conference, the Lakers are the favorites at -155 — The Spurs are the second favorite at +300, with the Dallas Mavericks and Oklahoma City coming in at +630. And out in the Eastern Conference, the top two favorites are the Miami Heat and the Chicago Bulls, tabbed at +160 each. Last year’s Eastern Conference champs, the Celtics, come in at +300.

Final 4 Betting Picks & Predictions

March 31st, 2011 Knup Posted in Basketball No Comments »

The 2011 March Madness is coming to an end.  The Final Four is all set and ready to be played in Houston, Texas this year.  The “four” teams in this years Final 4 are Connecticut, Kentucky, VCU and Butler.  Let’s take a look at the two games and see if we can give you a few winners for these games.

Kentucky vs. Connecticut

Kemba Walker may very well be the National Player of the Year for the Connecticut Huskies.  He has led this team to an unbelievable final month.  They just sailed through the Big East tournament winning like 5 games in 5 days against great opponents.  Then, everyone said they would run out of gas in the NCAA Tournament.  They got the #3 seed behind Duke and San Diego St. only to outlast them both and make it to the Final 4.  Kemba Walker is their leading scorer and absolutely has been clutch in the 2011 postseason.

The Kentucky Wildcats are a young and talented team.  They were seeded #4 in arguably the toughest region in this years tournament.  They surprised everyone by beating West Virginia, Ohio State and North Carolina to make their way to the Final 4.  Led by freshman Brandon Knight – the Wildcats have rebounded from losing 5 players to the first round of the NBA draft.  Players have stepped up such as Center Josh Harrellson.  He has been a force in this years tournament and could be a ton for the Huskies to handle.  John Calipari leads the Kentucky Wildcats and hopes to win his first championship as a part of the Kentucky Wildcats.

The odds on this game started with Kentucky as -1 point favorites. Now, the Wildcats sit at -2.5 favorites.  We like Kentucky to beat the Huskies in this game.  Knight and Harrellson are just too much.   If Kemba Walker can be contained AT ALL, Kentucky should win.  Our pick is for Kentucky -2.5 in this one.

VCU vs. Butler

VCU comes into the Final Four as a #11 seed.  Yes, a #11 seed.  In fact, they were part of the First Four play-in game just to get into the tournament.  They have pulled upset after upset including beating Kansas in the Elite 8.  VCU is explosive on offense and has the athletes to play with anyone.  They cause turnovers and shoot a lot of threes.  They have what it takes to win this game and make it to the National Championship for sure.

The Butler Bulldogs just know how to win in the tournament.  They had a less than stellar regular season but now sit in the Final Four for the 2nd straight year.  They are methodical on offense and play great defense.  They should be able to control the tempo against VCU.

This is probably one of the most shocking Final 4 matchups ever.  VCU is the underdog once again and Butler is -2.5 favorites.  We are riding the VCU Rams train and betting on VCU +2.5 in this Final 4 game.
