Detroit boasts one of the top offensive players in the game. Miguel Cabrera, fresh off his monster year last season has started the season with 3 homeruns and 7 runs batted in. The Tigers as a team are batting .264, with 38 runs scored. The Tigers will send right hander Justin Verlander to the mound. Verlander has pitched 14 innings thus far in 2011, allowing 7 hits and 6 runs, picking up a 1-0 record. In his career, Verlander holds a 84-52 record, and a 3.81 earned run average. Verlander was a key for the Tigers when they won the 2006 American League title.

The Texas Rangers start Sunday against the Baltimore Orioles with a 7-1 record. Texas is batting .281, and has scored 55 runs, which is third in all of Major League Baseball. The top hitter for the Rangers so far has been Nelson Cruz, who is not only batting .360, but has hit 5 homeruns and drove in 10 runs. Texas is currently leading the Los Angeles Angels by three games in the American League West. Texas will send youngster Alexi Ogando to the mound. Ogando is 27 years old and a right handed pitcher. The youngster pitched six innings against the Mariners on April 5th, allowing just two hits and no runs in the win.  Ogando holds a 5-1 career record as a major league baseball pitcher.

Baseball betting is a difficult thing to do. Each day is different, and games like this where a veteran pitcher like Verlander goes against an unproven rookie would lead bettors to believe the Tigers should win this game. Offenses can go silent quick, or break out for a ton of runs. The Tigers are the favorites in this game, due to their veteran pitcher going against a youngster. We look for this game to stay relatively low scoring, despite the offenses that both teams boast. We like the Detroit Tigers to win this game. We are betting Detroit -140.

Our pick: Detroit Tigers -140

Alex Rodriguez Joins The 600 HR Club

August 12th, 2010 Knup Posted in Baseball No Comments »

Alex Rodriguez recently became a member of a very impressive club, the 600 club. He is not one of only 8 men to ever hit 600 homeruns in Major League Baseball. Today, only the following men have bested him in number of homeruns hit, Willie Mayes, Barry Bonds, Sammy Sosa, Hank Aaron and Babe Ruth.

Alex Rodriguez’s homerun came against the Toronto Blue Jays, specifically, Shaun Marcum, who threw the pitch. Alex Rodriguez has had his struggles in New York, with many people questioning his huge contract. In recent years, however, he has been more consistent and has earned the respect of both the New York Yankees fans and his teammates.

Prior to reaching this very important milestone, Rodriguez was finding homeruns difficult to come by as of late. It had been 46 at-bats without a hit over the fence. It seems that the one coming was worth the wait, as it placed him in the very much coveted 600 homerun club. With that swing of the bat, Alex Rodriguez placed himself squarely in baseball fork lore. He will arguably be considered one of the best hitters of all time. Not only did Rodriguez meet this very important milestone but he did so faster then anyone else. No player in MLB history has hit 600 homeruns faster then Alex Rodriguez.  Rodriguez’s 600th home run, traveled over center field and landed in Monument Park. A worker from the stadium picked it up. No word on whether or not he kept it or handed it back over to Rodriguez.

Alex Rodriguez is one of the best players in professional baseball. He is certainly one of the highest paid players. Perhaps after hitting his 600th homerun, fewer people will be vocal about him not living up to the hype or not being worth the money. It’s difficult to downplay 600 hundred homeruns, and the fact that he reached this number faster then any other player in the history of Major League Baseball (MLB), speaks volumes.

The Detroit Tigers Can’t Hit Matt Garza

August 10th, 2010 Knup Posted in Baseball No Comments »

Monday was an exciting night for Tampa Bay Ray pitcher Matt Garza. The right handed thrower made team history by pitching a no hitter. It was also his first no hitter. Garza’s terrific night came against the Detroit Tigers who the Rays defeated by a score of 5-0. The Tampa Bay Rays have a record of 60 wins and 38 losses for the 2010 season, extending their push for the post season. They are only a few games behind the Yankees for first place in the AL East. There is a 3 game gap between the two teams. The Rays are ahead of Boston for the Wild Card by 5.5 games.

Garza, with a 2010 season record of 11-5, managed to sit six batters down via strike outs. The only base runner he allowed was a walk. This walk would ruin his attempt at pitching a perfect game which would have been the 3rd of the season. He would however, manage to throw the 5th no hitter of the MLB season. The Rays were the recipients of two of those no-hitter efforts.

Ramon Santiago of the Detroit Tigers pitched an excellent game as well up until the 6th inning. It was here that Matt Joyce ruined his night courtesy of a Grand Slam.

Individuals interested in MLB wagering will find that odds makers have designated the NY Yankees as the favorite, listing there odds at +275. Tampa Bay has been given odds of +700, that is to win the World Series. Find exclusive sportsbook bonuses right here and start betting on baseball right this minute!

The Tampa Bay rays are putting the heat on the NY Yankees as they continue a very impressive and outstanding season. The 3 game lead the Yankees hold could easily be dissolved, making way for Tampa Bay Rays to take first place in the AL East. The season continues to be an eventful one with a lot of good baseball. It will be interesting to see how the NY Yankees-Tampa Bay Rays AL East drama plays out.

Los Angeles Gets Another Angel: Acquire Haren

July 28th, 2010 Knup Posted in Baseball No Comments »

Daniel Haren, one of the better pitches in baseball, was recently acquired by the Los Angeles Angels. He was traded from the Arizona Diamondbacks in exchange for 3 of that club’s pitchers, plus an additional player.

Haren is a 6’5 pitcher. He weighs 215 pounds and is a right hander. He also bats right handed. Born in 1980, he is 29 years old, a fairly young pitcher. Haren is a native Californian, going to high school in La Puente, CA.

Drafted in 201 by the St. Louis Cardinals in the 2nd round, Haren has panned out, having had a good career as thrower. Besides the Cardinals, Dan has also pitched for the Athletics and of course, now the Angels.

As mentioned above, Haren was brought in from the Diamondbacks for three of their pitchers, 2 leftys and one right hander. Joe Saunders and Patrick Corbin are the left handed pitchers, while Rafael Rodriguez throws right handed. One other player was included in the trade as well.

For the 2010 season, Dan Haren has a 7-8 record, just shy of .500. He has an ERA of 4.60. It was initially rumored that he would be sent to either Detroit or New York, where he would have become either a Tiger or Yankee, respectively. Neither occurred and now, Dan is officially a member of the Los Angeles Angels.

This year, the Angels are fighting for the AL Wild Card. They trail Tampa Bay 8.5 games for the Wild Card. In the American League, they are 6 games behind the Texas Rangers. Overall, the team is just a bit above .500 with a record of 52-48. When it comes to baseball betting, oddmakers have made their opinion known regarding the chances of the Angels to win the World Series. They have been given +5000 odds. The books have conversely, given the favorite to win baseball’s biggest game, the New York Yankees, odds of +275.
